The day started before the sun rose with three women carpooling to downtown Little Rock to participate in the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure. This Race for the Cure is the largest in the nation with 50,000 women participating. It seems like just a few years ago that is race first began. This was the 15th race. It is inspiring to see women in mass in front of you and the same huge number behind you all focused on the same goal: to cure breast cancer. Amanda, my daughter, Cora Sue Hardin, the other grandmother of my grandson, and I walked the 5K together. It was fun to talk with family and friends for 3 miles. We were encouraged by the Three Miles of Men, radio stations, NLR and LR Firemen, belly dancers, school marching bands, cheer leaders, bands, motor cyclists and a host of others. We started with breakfast with my fellow AT&T employees at 1111 W. Capitol before heading outside to get pink bead necklaces that Yellow Pages purchase for the race. The three of us filled in the names of survivors we wanted to honor on pink race bibs and pinned them on our backs. Then we headed for the starting line. Amanda and Cora Sue had never participated in this race. They were in disbelief at the huge number of women on the street. We were on a mission to try to turn in the money Cora Sue had raised for the Cure. An hour later we crossed the finish line. Then we spit in a tube for the cause. They were trying to get a million women to participate in a research project in a search for a cure of breast cancer. We walked back up the hill to the car and headed for Conway.
Next stop Jump Zone in Conway with kids gone wild. It was Jake's 5th birthday party. Our men had gone ahead to be there when the party actually started. The kids all jumped until they were wringing wet with sweat. Then they had birthday cake and punch. Jake opened his gifts and was surrounded by his friends from school, church, family, and neighbors.
We were all tired, so after grabbing a bit to eat we came home for a little nap.
It was Tony Hardin's 60th birthday so we all went to Red Lobster for dinner. We had a great time.
Tate, our 19 month old grandson was our entertainment all day long. He is smart and strong willed. We all believe he is starting the terrible twos. He is the light of my life!
My wonderful daughter started me blogging by creating a blog for me. Look for me at this site from time to time.
